Internet Safety Day — Online Safety Insights for All Ages
The gaming industry in Manchester, UK, is big and getting bigger. With 75 computer game businesses in the city, Manchester is a major player in video game production in the UK, according to the UK Games Map.
Looking ahead, the UK Gaming sector is expected to be worth about £24.9 billion by 2027, growing at a rate of 8% annually. DISC is proud to be a hub of innovation and preparation for the future of this exciting industry.
Industry Insights
Recently, we had the honour of hosting Stephen Hey, former Marketing Director at EA studio and Chillingo, now plunging marketing experience into Indie developers and publishers as HeyStephenHey. His visit not only offered valuable insights into the gaming industry but also provided our students with an opportunity to showcase their work and receive positive feedback and advice on their projects.
Inclusive Podcast!
Stephen Hey will also be on DISC’s next Outside of the Box podcast episode where interns speak to people in the digital industry and explore employability and inclusivity themes through visits and chats. This season, they’re immersing themselves in the gaming landscape, delving into themes of employability and inclusivity.

Simplicity at its best
Another exciting visit was from Gareth Langley of Piing! He brought a competitive edge to the college with an engaging demo. While Piing fanzone games are typically enjoyed in real-world settings like football stadiums, DISC had the opportunity to experience play them! Everyone joined in, and we had a great time engaging in sledging, cycling, and flying games, showing that simplicity can often be best!

Exciting projects ahead!
Interns Kyza and Tilly are teaming up for “Poltergeist Pursuit,” a clue-based game featuring multiple endings and hidden surprises, developed using Unity and Aseprite. Take on the roles of both characters, as you guide a ghost trying to break free from the circus. The outcome is in your hands — you get to decide how it all unfolds!

And that’s not all. Brace yourselves for another Intern collaboration — “Night Terrors,” an immersive horror and suspense game, created using Unity, ProCreate, and Blender. It promises to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Stay tuned for more updates!
