Internships That Make a Difference: DISC in Action

This project is a student-produced presentation exploring Information Security (InfoSec), with a focus on Personal Security (PerSec) and Operational Security (OpSec) in real-world digital environments. The work demonstrates the student’s ability to research, structure, and communicate complex cybersecurity concepts clearly and engagingly.
The presentation covers key areas of cybersecurity knowledge, including information security principles, privacy risks, threat awareness, and risk management. The student explains core terminology and concepts such as OPSEC, risk profiles, threat actors, OSINT, and data exposure, showing an understanding of how personal and operational security apply beyond technical systems and into everyday online behaviour.
Practical cybersecurity skills are demonstrated through the discussion of secure networking, device and hardware security, identity compartmentalisation, and the responsible use of privacy tools. The student highlights industry-relevant technologies and methods, including VPNs, encrypted communication, secure operating systems, password management, and open-source intelligence tools, while also addressing ethical and legal considerations.
In addition to technical knowledge, this work showcases strong research skills, digital literacy, and communication skills. The student independently sourced learning materials, evaluated online safety risks, and presented guidance in a structured format suitable for a non-specialist audience. Overall, the project reflects a developing cybersecurity skillset grounded in responsible practice, ethical awareness, and real-world application
