A Fantastic First Full Ofsted Inspection for DISC

We’re delighted to announce that DISC (Digital Independent Specialist College), has received a Good overall effectiveness rating in our first ever Ofsted inspection, conducted between 29 April and 1 May 2025.

This is a tremendous achievement for the whole team and a powerful recognition of the inclusive, ambitious, and life-changing work happening at DISC every day.

For many on the DISC team who have experienced Ofsted inspections in schools, this was a strikingly different experience—warm, supportive, and clearly focused on truly understanding our learners and approach. The inspectors engaged with empathy and curiosity, showing a deep respect for both our staff and interns. In fact, one inspector was so moved by the welcome they received that they bought a bunch of flowers for Fatima, our receptionist and former intern, to thank her for her kindness and professionalism during the visit—a small but touching moment that captures the spirit of the week.

What Ofsted Praised

The report highlights DISC’s strong and inclusive culture, noting that staff “have established a welcoming, calm and highly inclusive learning environment that replicates the demands of a digital workplace.” Inspectors were particularly impressed by the professional relationships between staff and learners, which are rooted in mutual respect and authenticity.

Ofsted recognised the exceptional support provided to learners, especially those with autism or other neurodiverse conditions. Staff were praised for helping learners grow in confidence, resilience and problem-solving skills, as well as developing real-world digital and creative abilities through projects and work placements with employers.

Inspectors highlighted the ambitious, individualised curriculum designed to meet each learner’s specific needs, linking project work to EHC plan outcomes and career aspirations. They also acknowledged how learners benefit from access to industry-standard studios, podcast suites, and digital tools, allowing them to work on real-world briefs and produce professional-grade work.

The report also celebrated our outstanding personal development offer, which includes enrichment activities like cooking, boxing, chess, and café visits that build communication skills and self-esteem.

Areas for Continued Growth

While the report was overwhelmingly positive, Ofsted identified a couple of areas for development. These include ensuring the new Gateway curriculum continues to meet learners’ aspirations and embedding our newly formed governance structure.
